'Visitors' is the title of the new album by guitarist/composer Prashant Samlal and his quartet.

Where does the title 'Visitors' come from?
“For me, music is always about people, always inspired by people. The metaphor of 'Visitors' is also my view of people as visitors to life”, says Prashant.
“All the people who cross your path, with whom you have conversations, with whom you share experiences, that changes something in you. And, what it also means is that it's all temporary. Life itself, but also the temporality of the encounter, the contact. Where does that come from? It's how I see things, how I think. I like to read about spirituality.”

Samlal (1996) graduated cum laude from the HKU Conservatory in Utrecht in 2018 and also won the 'Conservatorium Talent Award 2018' that year. A year later, he released his first band album, 'Here and Now', followed in 2020 by a solo EP titled 'Intertwined'.
“I have been composing since the beginning of my conservatory days. Making your own pieces can be seen as searching for my own voice. Those compositions are a reflection of my personal view of jazz music. I use different elements from different kinds of music. Modern jazz, classical music, rock, really everything, a whole pallet of sounds and colors. Major influences are Miles, Coltrane, Monk but also Béla Bartók and a pop band like Big Thief. From the guitarists: Pat Metheny, Jim Hall and Bill Frisell.”
